Splashbacks can be a standout feature of any modern kitchen, laundry or bathroom, offering both a functional and aesthetic appeal. Serving as a protective barrier located in areas that are prone to water, grease or food splashes, and often feature materials such as stone, porcelain, glass or tile which offers a tough, reliable finish and seal, guaranteed to prevent damage.
At MyChoice Design Studio we believe a splashback is more than just a functional addition to your space. It’s a key area of your home where you can pay homage to your chosen style, delivering personality and texture into a high-end finish, all within budget.
At MyChoice Design Studio, you will have the opportunity to choose from a range of splashback materials, colours and finishes all under one roof. We understand this may seem a little daunting, so, we’ve compiled a shortlist of our most favourite splashback options available when you attend your selections appointment, guaranteed to inspire you when designing your kitchen, laundry or bathroom space.
Mosaic Kitchen Splashback Tiles
If your kitchen, laundry or bathroom features a simple colour palette, a Mosaic splashback can add contrast and balance, whilst help to achieve minimal join lines.
Often made from stone, ceramic, porcelain or glass, mosaic tiles are usually pre-mounted on a flexibly mesh backing for easy installation. MyChoice Design Studio consultant Emily Kasch says, “Due to their small size, mosaic tiles are a versatile fit for curved surfaces, tight spaces and intricate corners.”
See the impact these tiles can make to your space when you step inside the McDonald Jones Homes San Marino Encore at HomeWorld Thornton. On display is the Penny Round tiles in ‘Calcacatta Gold’, adding subtle pops of colour to a white-on-white kitchen design.

Where Benchtop and Splashback Meet
Want to create a contemporary kitchen with a seamless, understated look? Our interior design consultants recommend continuing your kitchen benchtop material up the wall to create a continuous look –a popular and on-trend design choice.

Luxe Mirror Splashback
Looking to add sophistication to your space, a mirror splashback is the perfect way to do this. Suitable for a range of home styles, a mirrored splashback is often found in bar or coffee nooks, designed to make smaller niches in the home feel larger, giving the illusion of more space and in some cases, reflecting a beautiful outlook.
This style of splashback can be found in the Mid-Century Modern inspired Essence 26 by Mojo Homes at Menangle Park – the perfect way to pay homage to this 60s inspired interior design style.

Glass Splashback
As a rule, tempered glass is usually installed, offering a durable material that can withstand heat and high-traffic activities, meaning it’s less likely to crack or break.
A Glass Splashback is a versatile option for kitchens, laundries and bathrooms, available in a wide range of colours, patterns and finishes. Emily says, “Opt for a colour similar to your cabinetry for a contemporary look that won’t date, or select a contrasting tone to create a dramatic statement”.
Large Format Tiled Splashback
If you have a strict budget, a large format tiled splashback is the financially savvy answer for you. When considering tiles, Emily states, “By selecting larger format tiles, you can reduce the grout lines and opt for a grout colour similar to the tile to make the lines less noticeable”.
Window Kitchen Splashback
A window splashback is a deliberate and well considered design option for kitchens and laundries located on an external wall as they provide natural light and window into spaces that surround your home. Often perceived as one of the more difficult splashback options to clean, glass is universally easier to clean and can be customized for ease of future maintenance.
If a window splashback is on your design wish list, our team recommend considering the orientation of your home on the block to maximise a brighter, more open and connected flow into your outdoors.
