Interior Design Trends Defining 2026

We recently sat down with our team at MyChoice Design Studio and discussed what interior design trends we expect to be see emerging in 2026.

Reflecting on last year, we saw the introduction of colour choice over safe, neutral selections through paint, cabinetry and furniture. In 2026, we foresee this evolving further with ‘dopamine décor’ becoming increasingly prominent focusing on boosting happiness with vibrant colours and playful patterns.

So, what are we waiting for? Let’s delve into the interior design trends that will define 2026.

Bold Blues

When speaking to Bronwyn Pankhurst, MyChoice Design Studio Manager, she said “Indigo is set to be a signature colour in 2026. This striking blue tone will create a calming presence within the home, and layers beautifully throughout using textured neutrals and organic finishes.”

Adding such a vibrant selection may seem overwhelming, which is why we recommend incorporating it through your large furniture pieces such as dining or occasional chairs, décor and soft furnishings including cushions, bedding and throws.

Be inspired by the Brighton Homes Breeze 22 on display at Lilywood Landings. Experience how vibrant shades of blue scattered throughout the home, paired with walnut timbers and cool greys, present Contempo Modern vibes.

Dark Woods

In 2025 we saw a resurgence in dark wood tones, and it doesn’t look like it’s slowing down any time soon. Bronwyn continues, “Whether it’s used in cabinetry, flooring or furniture, dark timber tones add depth, warmth and character to any space.”

Grounding and sophisticated, our designers suggest contrasting dark timber elements with soft neutrals and metals – complete the look with a touch of greenery for an inviting space.

The McDonald Jones Waverton 35 on display at Denman is the perfect example of this, with the kitchen featuring Polytec Bronzed Oak cabinetry paired with Dekton Stonika Khalo stone benchtop and splashback.

Make it Metallic

In recent years we’ve seen brass and bronze rule the interior design scene, however 2026 has taken us full circle back to cooler metallics, leaning heavily on silver, chrome, stainless steel and brushed nickel.

Inspired by 19th and 20th century Europe, interior home design is taking inspiration from polished silver platters and chrome candlestick holders that cast cool reflections and feel both nostalgic yet modern. Simply incorporate this trend in your tapware and cabinetry handle selections or add metallic décor around the home for an effective way to add edge back into your interiors.

Be inspired by the Mojo Homes Brampton 44 on display at HomeWorld Oran Park. This Luxe inspired home features stunning chrome hardware in the kitchen and furniture pieces throughout the home.

Pantone Colour of the Year: Cloud Dancer

Pantone’s Colour of the Year, 11-4201 Cloud Dancer evokes feelings of peace, unity and cohesiveness. Put simply, its use offers a ‘clean slate’, allowing for colour, texture and material to shine.

Read last month’s blog for more inspiration on how you can incorporate this year’s Cloud Dancer shade into your interiors.
