Exploring some of this year’s emerging modern home trends and join us as we step inside some of the newest and most stylish display homes put together by yours truly in collaboration with home builders across the country.
Modern Farmhouse
Evolving from cohesive classic comfort into a grounded and nurturing style, the Farmhouse aesthetic is enriched with warmth and history. By emphasising rustic elements and embracing an imperfect harmony, you’ll showcase a unique crosspoint whereby vintage pieces blend beautifully with contemporary furniture.
When curating a Modern Farmhouse inspired home, think grounded hues such as biscuit reds, deep greens, and weathered taupe for a natural, rural palette. Pairing these tones with warm woods and soft surfaces will balance raw and simple finishes for a timeless yet modern look.

Mid-Century Modern
The Mid-Century Modern style continues to evolve, moving away from its practical and timeless roots into a more layered and comforting direction.
MyChoice Design Studio consultant Kristy Gilchrist says, “Mid-Century Modern is the perfect style for open floorplans, boasting joyful maximalism with bright colours, tactile finishes and expressive geometry.”
The key to the Mid-Century Modern design style is a seamless flow between indoor and outdoor spaces using large expanses of glass. Inject ’energy’ into your Mid-Century Modern colour palette with pops of yellow, pinks and emeralds, while using neutrals to provide balance that presents a home that inspires everyday creativity.
The Mid-Century Modern style is showcased in the Brighton Homes Meridian 24 at Aura, Caloundra West. With engaging pops of colour, warm mid-tone cabinetry and layered finishes, this single-storey home feels both enduring and full of personality.
Japandi
Japandi is a design style that harmoniously blends Japanese and Scandinavian cultures, combining a smart layout with intuitive design to create minimal, nature-inspired spaces. Evolving beyond calm minimalism, the Japandi style restores balance through simplicity, ease and intention.
“Light and airy environments, combined with contrasting colours and textured linear surfaces, shape every element of Japandi living,” says Kristy.
The palette for a Japandi home is serene and earthy, with greys, greens and warm tones paired with durable and tactile materials to craft an aesthetic home that feels tranquil and enduring.

Modern Coastal
The Modern Coastal look is no longer restricted to its beachside roots, and is fast becoming an effortless, portable style for any location.
When exploring the Modern Coastal look, Kristy says, “Light plays a vital role in establishing this aesthetic, emphasising brightness and airiness through the use of large windows and doors. The key to creating that emotive feeling of coastal lightness and calm is establishing a direct link to the outdoors.”
The ideal Modern Coastal palette includes a clean white base colour, complemented by light to mid-tone timber and naturally textured elements. The addition of tactile surfaces and imperfect finishes helps creates a visual interest.
