A Coastal Dream

Bright and breezy, a Coastal styled home creates a soothing connection between the indoors and out.

Long gone are the days when the Coastal style embodied beachside cliché décor and motifs. In today’s world it is a beautiful, carefully considered blend of natural materials, expanses of glass, and a natural palette.

The key elements of the Coastal home include:

  • A palette of whites, greys, and washed-out pastels.

  • Crisp linens, cottons and woven natural fibres are perfect for bed linen, cushions, and sofas.

  • Sisal, seagrass, and lightweight rugs are integral to a Coastal design as they can tie the space together.

  • Timber tones should be light and to add more texture into the space, use a mixture of weathered and smooth finishes.

This month we’ve been discussing what makes a Coastal home so beautifully effortless with our expert MyChoice Design Studio interior design consultants.

The Coastal style is all about the love of our beautiful beaches and the relaxed, casual, and carefree vibe that they evoke. Our consultants explain, “The Coastal style, should transport you back to those long summer days, and should instantly bring on that sense of holidays.”

Ocean-inspired hues set on a crisp white backdrop with warming hints of timber is what makes a Coastal home spacious and airy.

Of our four (4) Coastal sub-styles available, our experts claim the Modern design is taking the lead with our clients and the industry alike.

Defined by clean lines, textures, and natural materials, a Modern Coastal home exudes a serene and sophisticated aesthetic. Our consultants say, “Light is a crucial component of this sub-style. Keep things light and breezy throughout the home with a fresh white base colour complemented by stainless steel, timber, and woven materials to create the perfect base.

When styling your Modern Coastal home our consultants suggest also following these tips.

  • Maximise the space with high, square set ceilings, large windows and simple skirting and architraves.

  • For flooring we suggest timber floors, polished concrete, or large format concrete-look tiles.

  • In the kitchen opt for finger pull drawers over cupboards and add integrated appliances where possible.

Step into natural simplicity. Filled with calming materials such as linens, seagrass, and warm timbers, the open layout allows light and fresh air to flow through the home. The general laid back, breezy and charming aesthetic of this design works perfectly for the Australian lifestyle and climate. The master suite is the hero of the home featuring an exquisite, raked ceiling enveloped in a seagrass wallpaper highlighting the connection to the coastal environment.

The Coastal style features carefully designed and well-resolved interiors that are as efficient as they are beautiful. Allowing you to relax into a seaside scene and feel the sea-salt breeze, no matter where you live, creating the perfect oasis for you and your family to reside.
